Sporting Lisbon Clinch Portuguese Title as Benfica Falter

Sporting Lisbon got their second Championship of Portugal after 21 years of waiting for the second time, this Sunday, after the second-placed Benfica lost. The club who won last season had a 2-0 shock, humiliation leveled by Famalicao.

This was despite the fact that Ruben Amorim's conquering side had beaten Portimonense 3-2 on Saturday. Sports, currently with 92 goals in 32 games, are on top-scoring list and eight points more than Benfica careening towards the title.

Cruto's team have dropped only 2 games along the way to winning the 20th league title for the club, with Porto leading on 30 and historical leaders, Benfica, on 38 being out in front.

The magnificent goals sprayed by the Swedish forward Viktor Gyokeres is the mainstay of Sporting's title success and he got his 27th goal of the campaign on Saturday to end their success.

Sporting will meet Porto on the 26th May at the Portuguese Cup final, hoping to strike gold.
