Sunil Narine has given up his chances of national representation for the upcoming T20 World Cup in the Caribbean and the USA as well, and he thinks his international career is finished.
However, to all the doubts about his possible comeback in the international cricket as he has now clarified in a team statement from Kolkata Knight Riders that the door for international cricket is now closed.
After playing in a T20 hundred match for the first time this season, the KKR opener—who last appeared for his side in August 2019 teased a potential comeback to the national squad. He confirmed his retirement in November 2023. "I don't know what the future holds; it is what it is. In a casual conversation, I had mentioned it to them when they inquired about my potential to play for the West Indies," he replied.
"I feel deeply thankful and deeply touched that so many people lately have found it fit to say publically that they hope I will make a come-back and play the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup," Narine said.
"Now, I have accepted that situation and although I never wish to let anybody down, I feel that time has moved on and that door has closed. Henceforth, I will now be fully supporting the guys who take that field for West Indies in June; guys who have worked tirelessly in the past few months and deserve to show our fans that they are capable of lifting another title. I wish you all the very best."
