Suryakumar Yadav, India's star T20 batter is now recovering at Bengaluru's National Cricket Academy following ankle surgery, but it is unclear whether he will be available for the Mumbai Indians' opening two games in the forthcoming Indian Premier League. The Mumbai Indians will begin their season on Sunday, March 24, against last year's runners-up, Gujarat Titans.

Surya's rehabilitation is on track and he will certainly 'Return to Play' in the IPL itself. However it is still not clear whether the NCA's Sports Science and Medical Team will give clearance to play in the first two away games against Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad (March 27).

Surya's fitness is crucial for both the IPL and T20 2024 World Cup -

Surya is going through a lot of Strength and Conditioning (S&C) measures, as per his instagram handle, but he hasn't been seen practicing at the NCA, this might hint to us about his plans.

There are still 12 days to go before MI play their first game but it could be a race against time to get fit by the first match itself.

Surya is the most important player in India's T20 squad, with a strike rate of 171+ and 2,141 runs in 60 games. He has four T20I hundreds to his name.

Surya's performance will have a significant impact on India's hopes in the Americas T20 World Cup (USA and West Indies). Even for MI to run a successful campaign, Surya's availability from the start is critical.

Surya last played in South Africa, when he led the national team in the T20 format.
