The T20 fever continues to march on after the conclusion of IPL 2024, with the T20 World Cup shortly beginning in a couple of days. The teams as always are in the spotlight with curtains being raised from June 1

This World Cup is being hosted by the United States of America and the West Indies. The West Indies has previously hosted the tournament back in 2010. This is the first time that the USA will be hosting an International tournament.

Playing Conditions For T20 World Cup 2024

This brings in a lot of excitement not only because of exciting Cricket but also with the fans, the cultures of the two nations, the folklore, and much more.

However, a lot of things depend on the playing conditions, venues, and the drainage systems of the grounds where the tournament is to be played

1. Grand Prairie Stadium, Dallas, USA

The Grand Prairie Stadium in the USA was earlier a Football stadium used by the Texas Airhogs, the stadium opened in 2008 then it switched to a baseball ground in 2017. The venue now has been repurposed for Cricket.

Pitch Conditions-

Looking at the pitch conditions during the warm-up games it appears to be a bat-first wicket, with the pitch slowing down considerably in 2nd Innings.

Drainage System-

The USA has been receiving plenty of rainfall and the outfield as seen during the Warm-up has taken a lot of beating. If Rain plays spoilsport one can see some soggy outfields.

2. Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York

The Newly constructed stadium can hold up to 34000 people, this new venue is situated on the grounds of Eisenhower Park in East Meadow. The Venue will host the biggest game of the tournament on 9th June when arch-rivals India and Pakistan will clash against each other.

3. Central Broward Park & Broward County Stadium, Lauderhill, Florida

Central Broward Park in Lauderhill, Florida, is a multi-purpose park offering something for everyone. Opened in 2007, this vibrant park caters to the culturally diverse communities in the area. The centerpiece is the state-of-the-art Broward County Stadium, a 20,000-seat facility known for hosting major cricket matches, including international tournaments. Besides cricket, the stadium boasts a circular multipurpose field for various events and festivals.

Pitch Conditions-

The Pitch at Florida is generally a belter of a pitch with the highest total recorded is in more than 200. (243-4) by West Indies vs India.

Drainage System-

Once a brief rain interruption took place but that was enough to make the outfield look like a swimming pool and with the ground newly built at that time the drainage system was not good enough.

4. Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North-Sound, Antigua

Sir Vivian Richards Stadium is a cricket ground located in North Sound, Saint George, Antigua and Barbuda, named after former West Indies cricket captain Viv Richards. The stadium was built for the 2007 Cricket World Cup and has a capacity of 10,000 people, with temporary seating that doubled its capacity for the 2007 World Cup. The stadium is approximately 10-20 minutes' drive from the capital city.

Coming to the pitch conditions the pitch at Antigua is a tad slow but good enough to post a total of over 200, this pitch generally favors the team batting first.

With the Caribbean receiving plenty of rainfall every year the outfields are generally muddy and soft with no proper drainage.

5. Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Trinidad and Tobago

The Brian Lara Cricket Academy is a state-of-the-art competition venue and training facility for the development of world-class cricketers, located in Tarouba, San Fernando, Trinidad and Tobago. It is named after former West Indies cricket captain Brian Lara, one of the greatest batters to have played the game. The Academy has a total capacity of 15,000 people in a mix of fixed seating and grass banks.

Pitch Conditions-

The pitch at Trinidad is a little bit quick as compared to other grounds in West Indies chasing is a preferred option here, looking at the CPL games here.

Just like other grounds Drainage at this venue too isn't that great either.

6. Darren Sammy Cricket Ground, Gros Islet, St Lucia

The Daren Sammy Cricket Ground, formerly known as the Beausejour Cricket Ground, is a picturesque stadium located near Gros Islet, Saint Lucia.

Pitch Conditions-

Pitches at Darren Sammy Cricket Ground have been good for batting with many scores recorded in the CPL, expect another high run-scoring World Cup at this venue particularly.

Drainage System-

Compared to other grounds this ground has a slightly better drainage system, expect a quick restart if rain plays a spoilsport.

7. Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados

Kensington Oval is the oldest cricket ground in Barbados, established in 1882. It is located in the western part of Bridgetown, Barbados and is the premier sporting facility on the island. The stadium primarily hosts cricket matches, and has been the location of many important and exciting games between local, regional, and international teams.

Pitch Conditions-

The Pitch conditions in Barbados are slow and conducive for tweakers with pitch aiding a decent amount of turn.

Drainage Systems-

Just like other World Cup venues in terms of drainage, the venue isn't that good.

8. Providence Stadium, Georgetown, Guyana

The Providence stadium in Guyana has hosted many memorable games for example the 2007 World Cup, it is also a ground where Lasith Malinga picked up four wickets in four balls.

The pitch in Guyana is one of the toughest pitches to bat on with its ultra-slow nature, spinners will be licking their lips to play on this track as along with the slowness it aids a lot of turn in both the innings, only ground where chances to breach 200 are less.

Drainage Systems-

The drainage system here is still better compared to other venues, however in recent years with plenty of rainfall, the outfield naturally has lost its lush green structure.

9. Arnos Vale Stadium, Kingstown, Saint Vincent

The Arnos Vale Stadium in Kingstown is a sports complex that can hold a capacity of 18000 it was renovated during the time of the 2007 ODI World Cup.

The Pitch Kingstown is a fast deck favoring the Pacers more especially in the night games.

Drainage Systems-

The drainage facilities are very good at this venue compared to all 8 venues used in the World Cup.
