Yuvraj Singh shares his opinion on why Rohit Sharma should have been given another season at the helm

After Hardik was traded in from the Gujarat Titans, MI took the audacious decision to name him captain, which at first sparked a lot of criticism from the supporters. Over the last several months, supporters and detractors of the decision have voiced their viewpoints, dividing the cricket community. In an interview with Star Sports, Yuvraj expressed his opinion that dismissing Rohit as captain was a significant choice, and he would have preferred Hardik to serve as vice-captain while he saw how the team operated.

Re-Living Rohit Sharma’s Captaincy Legacy:

Five crowns, 87 wins in 158 games managed, and a 56.2 success rate point to an incredible run of leadership. That's exactly what happened, as Rohit turned a collection of extremely gifted but wildly underachieving players into a team by selecting them consistently and keeping the team as a whole in mind to win. Being composed and able to think clearly under stress are two of a leader's greatest qualities. Mahendra Singh Dhoni is an expert in all areas; Rohit was a capable backup to the most successful captain in the Indian Premier League and the IPL (Dhoni has led the Chennai Super Kings to five titles, which is also Rohit's total). While Rohit was influenced by several leaders and finally developed his own ideology based on inclusivity and group contributions, he ultimately made the final decision and ensured that the blame rested with him. Equipped with a compassionate, perceptive leadership team and a strong internal talent identification and development framework, Rohit was undoubtedly provided with the optimal conditions to thrive. It seems sense that the 36-year-old would be proud of the fact that he made the most of the resources at his disposal and frequently considered interests beyond the business.

Yuvraj Singh’s Say on the alleged fiasco:

'Rohit Sharma is a 5-time IPL winner as a captain. Removing him is a big decision. I would have gotten someone in, like they brought Hardik (Pandya), but I still would have given Rohit one more season and let Hardik be the vice-captain and see how the whole franchise works.'

'In terms of talent, yes, he has great talent. Being captain of Gujarat will be different from being captain of Mumbai. Expectations are a lot. Mumbai Indians have been a big side.'
