The United Arab Emirates will be hosting its 2nd T20 World Cup in 4 years. The Gulf country was first chosen to play host of the Men's T20 World Cup in 2021 where India was the host of the tournament. Due to the presence of the COVID-19 Pandemic in India, the tournament was shifted.
Now, UAE will be hosting the Women's T20 World Cup for which the designated venues are the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai & the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in Sharjah.
The Dubai International Stadium or the 'Ring Of Fire' as they call it has hosted many memorable games in the ICC event in the past as well. The venue can accommodate up to the capacity of 30,000. Although it can hold up to 25000 capacity in sitting.
The pitch conditions in Dubai are slow and tacky, the ball doesn't come onto the bat nicely in the first innings. Once the dew sets in the pitch becomes easier to bat on, its green lush outfield is fast and ensures that the ball travels fast towards the boundaries.
Sharjah is one of the oldest venues in the history of Cricket, the venue has seen many memorable games in the past from the great Sachin Tendulkar's emphatic innings 'Desert Storm' as they call it to Rahul Tewatia's blinder in the IPL a few seasons ago.
Then, the pitch was flat with the ball coming onto the bat nicely, the short boundaries at the venue too helped the batters to send the ball at will up in the air. However, the pitch at Sharjah was relayed and transformed into a slow and low surface with run-scoring getting difficult. Something similar is expected when the Women's T20 World Cup begins on October 3.
