The Delhi Capitals (DC) and Mumbai Indians (MI) have already confirmed their participation in the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2024 playoffs. For them, the focus is now on who finishes first in the table and advances to the final. However, one playoff position is still up for grabs, with two teams battling for it: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and UP Warriorz (UP-W).
Both RCB and the Warriorz have six points from seven matches. However, Smriti Mandhana's Challengers are ranked third due to their higher net run rate of +0.027. The Warriorz, on the other side, have a net run rate of-0.365.
The situation became difficult after RCB fell to the Capitals by one run on Sunday, March 10 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
RCB and the Warriorz would not qualify for the playoffs if they just won their next match. The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will face the Mumbai Indians (MI) in their last league encounter on March 12.
It is worth noting that RCB has lost all three WPL matches against MI since the league's inception last year. The Warriorz, on the other hand, will face Gujarat Giants (GT), who will play for pride after being eliminated from the competition.
Scenario 1
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) beat Mumbai Indians (MI) and hope UP Warriorz (UPW) lose to Gujarat Giants (GT).
If the Warriorz beat the Giants and RCB lose to MI, Mandhana’s women will be knocked out of the competition.
Scenario 2
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) beat Mumbai Indians (MI) and UP Warriorz (UPW) beat Gujarat Giants (GT)
or
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) lose to Mumbai Indians (MI) and UP Warriorz (UPW) lose to Gujarat Giants (GT)
The team with the better net run rate will advance.
