The world's best female cricket players had plenty to rejoice about this weekend, as numerous players secured rich deals for the Twenty20 event during the Women's Premier League auction in India.
One of the most sought-after players was an Australian all-rounder Annabel Sutherland, who was eventually acquired by Delhi Capitals for 20 million Indian rupees ($239,000).
There were also two uncapped Indian players in great demand. All-round seam bowlers Kashvee Gautam and Vrinda Dinesh drew the highest offers. For 20 million rupees, Gautam joined the Gujarat Titans, and for 13 million rupees, the UP Warriorz signed batter Dinesh.
For what has grown to be one of the most profitable women's sports leagues in the world, 165 players participated in the auction.
The bids to acquire five WPL teams brought in a whopping $572.5 million for the Indian Cricket Board, while the tournament's broadcast rights sold for $116.7 million.
