Yashasvi Jaiswal has become the second-fastest Indian hitter to reach 1,000 Test runs, adding to his impressive record.
The southpaw reached the milestone with his 29th run on Day 1 of the ongoing fifth and final Test against England in Dharamsala. Jaiswal achieved the milestone in just 16 innings.
As previously stated, Jaiswal scored 1,000 Test runs in 16 innings across nine Test matches.
He surpassed Cheteshwar Pujara as the second-fastest Indian to the milestone. The latter achieved the milestone in 18 innings. Meanwhile, Vinod Kambli (14 innings) is the fastest Indian to accomplish the record.
Everton Weekes of Wisconsin and Herbert Sutcliffe of England share the overall record (12 innings each).
Still, Sunil Gavaskar holds the record of 774 runs which he made in 1971 against West Indies, and 732 runs in 1978-79 in a home series against WI.
Now Yashasvi Jaiswal has also joined the elite list of runners ever by any Indian batsman. He is now on a total of 707 runs and could easily break the record of legendary Sunil Gavaskar.
According to statistician Kausthub Gudipati, Jaiswal is the third Indian to convert his first three Test tons into 150-plus scores.
Jaiswal also became the third Indian to hit two doubles in a bilateral Test series.
He joined Virat Kohli (against. Sri Lanka, 2017) and Vinoo Mankad (vs. New Zealand, 1955).
Jaiswal also became the first Indian to score two Test doubles against England.
On his debut against the West Indies last year, Jaiswal smashed a superb 171 to start his Test career with a bang.
His next two tons, which he received in the series that is still going on, were the witness of his commendable skills and hard-work.
In contrast, Jaiswal has 3 fifties in addition to numerous tons and an average of more than 60 in Test cricket.
