Brandon King has been appointed as the captain of the West Indies team on an interim basis against South Africa. King's appointment comes on the back of the non-availability of the regulars, Players like Rovman Powell, Shimron Hetmyer, and several other players who are still playing in the Indian Premier League(IPL).
Rovman Powell and Shimron Hetmyer are a part of Rajasthan Royals whereas Andre Russell and Sherfane Rutherford play for the Kolkata Knight Riders team. With Royal Challengers Bengaluru also qualifying for the playoffs, Alzarri Joseph too won't be available.
Apart from these 5 players, the West Cricket Board has decided to give some breather to batters Shai Hope and Nicholas Pooran even though their respective teams won't be playing in the playoffs, Meanwhile, fast bowler Shamar Joseph has been picked in the squad, and is set for a Debut after playing just one game for the Lucknow Supergiants, Sherfane Rutherford who is associated with KKR will be added later to the squad in case the Kolkata based franchise fails to make it to the final.
