Despite the general elections, the much-awaited Indian Premier League is scheduled to start on March 22 and will take place fully within India, league chairman Arun Dhumal told PTI on Tuesday. The main reason the calendar for the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League has not been released yet is that the elections are anticipated to take place in April and May. Speaking to PTI, Dhumal stated that the schedule for the remaining games will be selected when the general election dates are published. Initially, just the schedule for the first 15 days will be made public.
It is anticipated that the Lok Sabha election dates will be revealed early in the next month.
We are looking at a March 22 start for the tournament. We are working closely with the government agencies and we will first release the initial schedule. The entire tournament will be held in India.

The IPL was hosted entirely outside like in South Africa in 2009, and because of the general elections, part of the 2014 tournament was held in the United Arab Emirates. But in 2019, the competition took place in India despite the elections.
The T20 World Cup starts a few days after this major league ends, therefore May 26 is most likely the date of the final.
India's first World Cup match will take place in New York on June 5 against Ireland, while the USA vs. Canada match will kick off on June 1.
The IPL opening match will, as usual, be played between last year's defending title champions and the runner-up of the season i.e. the first match is scheduled to be played between CSK and GT.
Australian pacer Mitchell Starc, who was acquired by Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 24.75 crore, became the most expensive player in league history during the December 2018 players' auction for the 2024 season.
