Australia is expected to officially hand over the T20 captaincy to an all-rounder Mitchell Marsh ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and the United States. Since Aaron Finch's retirement, Australia has never officially appointed their captain in the shortest format, however, Marsh has led the side in three of the four matches since the competition. Marsh, who was rested for the India series immediately following the World Cup, captained the team in South Africa, against the West Indies, and most recently in New Zealand.

Marsh is a dynamic T20 Captain -

Head coach of Australia Andrew McDonald has backed Marsh to stay captain of his country during the T20 World Cup. "I think all roads will lead to Mitch, so just got to get that ticked off in certain areas," McDonald, who serves on the selection panel with chairman George Bailey and Tony Dodemaide, said following his side's 2-0 Test series victory over trans-Tasman foes New Zealand.

We're happy and comfortable with the way he's been able to operate with that T20 team," McDonald added. "We think he's the leader for the World Cup, and I think that will just be a matter of due course.

Marsh for T20s & Cummins for ODI and Tests -

Pat Cummins, who has successfully led Australia in ODIs and Tests, played under Marsh in the three-match T20 series against New Zealand. And, despite being a sensational captain in the longer formats, he has yet to light up the world stage in the shortest format and may not even be a starter in the playing XI, which may have pushed the selectors' hand.

But Cummins will captain the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League, and Marsh will probably play for the Delhi Caps under David Warner or Rishabh Pant.
