The Opening game of the defending champions England against Scotland didn't go according to plan as rain played a spoilsport at Bridgetown, Barbados persistent rain interruptions ensured that the match had to be called off. This was the first game of the T20 World Cup 2024 which was abandoned due to rain.
Coming into the Game Scotland won the toss and chose to bat first, this decision raised eyebrows as rain was expected and the pitch was a decent one to bat on, the Scots proved their decision right, the openers raised the team score to 51/0 in 6.2 overs when the heavens opened up for the first time.
The delay was a small one, the players were back on the field with no overs lost, unfortunately, they had to climb the stairs shortly as the rain had started to play hide-and-seek, the rain did relent for some time While removing the covers a damp spot was spotted in the center of the pitch which took some time to get dry.
After a long wait, the players were back on the field with the game being reduced to 10 overs per side. This meant that the bowling limit was limited to 2 overs per bowler which meant that Jos Buttler's premium bowlers Jofra Archer and Mark Wood were done for the day.
Buttler had to manage with Adil Rashid and Chris Jordan in the death overs. Scotland openers George Munsey and Michael Jones added 90 runs in 10 overs without losing any wickets. This ensured that England had to chase a target of 109 runs according to the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method the final score had to be readjusted.
