Sandeep Lamichhane Set To Join Nepal Team In The West Indies Leg Of T20 World Cup

Sandeep Lamicchane will link up with the squad in the Caribbean leg of the T20 World Cup.

Sandeep Lamichhane will link up with the Nepal squad in the West Indies leg of the T20 World Cup. The leg spinner's Visa was rejected before the beginning of the tournament.

Lamicchane was facing an eight-year prison sentence which was eventually overturned.

Lamichhane missed Nepal's game against the Netherlands at Dallas, he will also miss the upcoming game against Sri Lanka which is scheduled to be held at the Lauderhill stadium in Florida. He will play in Nepal's last two games against South Africa and Bangladesh scheduled to be held at St. Vincent.

Sandeep Lamichhane back in Nepal Squad

Lamichhane's name is understood to be included in the squad list for the World Cup which was submitted to the ICC. However, his name was not there in the publicly announced squad list.

Lamicchane has landed in the Caribbean, he has the experience of playing on these surfaces as he has played for the CPL teams Jamaica Tallahwahs and St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots.

Lamichhane on his inclusion

"I would like to thank the Government of Nepal, the sports ministry, and the foreign ministry, who all tried very hard for me to get a visa for the US, unfortunately, it didn't work out well this time, but now I'll be joining the squad in West Indies to play the last two games, Lamichhane said in a statement posted on social media.

Cricket Association of Nepal confirmed the move in a similar statement,

Nepal Player Sandeep Lamichhane is going to leave for the West Indies to take part in the ongoing ICC Men's T20 World Cup. The Squad initially had bowler Pratish Ji as a reserve in the 15-member squad, while Lamichhane was in the squad. We sincerely hope that fans of Nepal Cricket will unite and cheer for their team who are playing this tournament for the first time in 10 years.
