The Delhi Capital's Director of Cricket, Sourav Ganguly, recently released an update in which he disclosed the reason behind Prithvi Shaw's absence from the opening IPL 2024 match. Sourav Ganguly clarified that the team's approach included leaving Shaw out of the starting lineup against the Punjab Kings in favor of opening with Mitchell Marsh and David Warner.

Many were startled by Shaw's absence from the Delhi Capitals' debut match on March 23 in Mullanpur, especially in light of the fact that the team kept him on before the mini-auction in December of last year. The decision to start with the all-Australian combination of Warner and Marsh paid off at first, as the two soon gave the squad a solid start by scoring 39 runs in just 19 balls.

Prithvi Shaw’s past year antiques:

Shaw's lack of influence in the first six games of the previous season contributed to his dismal performance, as he only managed 106 runs at an average of 13.25 in eight matches. Nevertheless, he turned around and scored 54 runs off of 38 balls in a victory over the Punjab Kings.

Sourav Ganguly went on to say that because of Shaw's injury and his obligations to Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy 2023–24, the coaching team of the Delhi Capitals had little opportunity to work with him during the off-season. Shaw suffered an injury that ended his promising County Championship run. He didn't play again until February when he played for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy, where they won. Shaw was not able to participate in the team's four-day training camp despite efforts to include him due to his involvement with the Ranji Trophy and Mumbai's ultimate victory in the competition.
