The Women's T20I World Cup has been shifted to UAE from Bangladesh the ICC announced it in a virtual meeting on Tuesday. This change was on the expected lines as the ongoing tense situation in Bangladesh would have made it difficult for the ICC to conduct the event.
The Bangladesh Cricket is said to have agreed to the decision with the tournament being shifted to the UAE. Bangladesh though will continue to be the host of the tournament.
The ongoing violence in Bangladesh ensured that their Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fled the country. This also resulted in many top BCB officials like BCB president Nazmul Hasan fleeing the country. The T20 World Cup is set to be played from October 3 to 20.
This is not the first that the UAE has been asked to host an ICC event, previously, in the 2021 Men's T20I Cricket World Cup UAE hosted the tournament as in India at that time the COVID-19 virus was fast spreading, the tournament had to be moved out of the country. India though, retained their hosting rights at that time.
