Dhawan has been out of action since injuring his shoulder while fielding during the home game against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 9, and in his absence, Sam Curran has been leading the side.
Curran and Jonny Bairstow will return after the Punjab Kings' penultimate match against Rajasthan Royals at Guwahati on Wednesday, which means that the franchise will have to name a new captain for the last match.
Meanwhile, in another loss for them, Punjab Kings will also miss the English pace-bowling all-rounder Chris Woakes, who has left for home due to the death of his father Roger Woakes a few days back.
The team from Punjab is going to bow out of IPL 2024 in a similar fashion which they have been doing since the last decade, in this season though they did look good once again filled with lots of flair and promise but just couldn't win the crunch moments, most of their matches this season have gone down to the wire but unfortunately for Punjab most of the times the luck has befriended the opponent teams. Currently, Punjab Kings lie at the rock bottom of the points table with 4 wins and 8 losses in 12 games.
