The Arun Jaitley Stadium, previously known as the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, is a cricket stadium in New Delhi, India. The Delhi & District Cricket Association owns and operates it; it was created in 1883 (DDCA). The stadium, India's second-oldest international cricket pitch, is named after the adjoining Kotla Fort. The Delhi Ranji team and the Delhi Daredevils (previously the Delhi Capitals) play their home games in this 48,000-capacity stadium. The arena has hosted numerous international matches, including as T20, One-Day, and Test matches. Furthermore, it has hosted some Indian Premier League (IPL) games.

Since WPL games have been hosted here recently so organisation is renovating the ground for the IPL matches and initial matches would not be held here.

Pitch Report of Arun Jaitley Stadium:

The Arun Jaitley Stadium pitch for T20 matches generally favors batsmen but with some interesting twists:

Batsman Friendly:

  • High Scoring: The pitch is known to be docile, offering good bounce and pace for clean hitting. This often leads to high-scoring encounters with plenty of boundaries.
  • Balanced in recent times: While historically batsman-friendly, recent trends show the pitch becoming slightly more balanced. Spinners come into play as the innings progresses, and teams batting second have found it slightly trickier compared to the past.

Factors to Consider:

  • First Innings Advantage: Despite the recent changes, teams winning the toss and batting first still hold a slight advantage due to the initial ease of scoring.
  • Ground size: The stadium is not one of the biggest, making it easier for batsmen to clear the boundaries.

Stats to Consider:

  • Average first innings score (IPL since 2019): 170 runs
  • Average first innings winning score (IPL since 2019): 192 runs
  • Highest T20I score: 199/5 by Gujarat Giants Women vs. Bangladesh Women (March 6, 2024)
  • Highest successful run chase: 191/3 by Mumbai Indians Women vs. Gujarat Giants Women (March 9, 2024)

Overall:

The Arun Jaitley Stadium provides a good contest between bat and ball in T20s. While batsmen enjoy a slight edge initially, spinners can play a crucial role later in the innings, and teams chasing can still put up a good fight.
