About IPL 2025
The Indian Premier League (IPL) is a professional Twenty20 cricket league in India, established in 2008 by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The IPL is based on a round-robin group and knockout format, featuring ten city-based teams. The league has grown into one of the richest sports leagues in the world, with a viewership and profit potential that has made it a global phenomenon.
The IPL was conceived by Lalit Modi, the then Vice President of the BCCI, as a response to the Indian Cricket League (ICL) and as a means to promote cricket in India and internationally. The first IPL season, held in 2008, was won by the Rajasthan Royals. As of 2024, the IPL has had 17 seasons, with the 2025 season scheduled to take place from March 22nd to May 25th, 2025.
The IPL has been instrumental in transforming cricket into a more entertaining and accessible sport, with a focus on fast-paced action, music, and celebrity involvement. The league has also led to the growth of cricket as a global sport, with other countries establishing their own domestic T20 leagues. The IPL has been a catalyst for the growth of cricketainment, a term that describes the fusion of cricket and entertainment, which has attracted new audiences to the sport.

IPL 2025 Format
The teams are split up into two groups of five, A and B. Every team plays once against all four of its group's opponents and twice (at home and away) against all five of the other group's teams. Every squad plays seven away games and seven at home. The top four clubs in terms of total points after the group stage advanced to the postseason. The top two teams battle against one another in a match dubbed "Qualifier 1" at this level, and the bottom two teams compete against one another in a competition dubbed "Eliminator". While the winner of Qualifier 1 was automatically eligible for the championship game, the losing team also had the opportunity to go to the finals by facing the winner of the Eliminator match, which was known as Qualifier 2. The winner of this second qualifying match advanced to the Final match. The squad that prevailed in the championship game was named the Indian Premier League victorious.
